Gamard: PAC Shoots With “Shooter”

Rep. Blake Miguez — if you’re unfamiliar with his gun-fueled background, hit up Google now — is the featured political player in a new digital ad that’s being released this week as part of the Louisiana Republican Judiciary PAC’s new outreach campaign. In particular, the PAC will be targeting conservatives to support a constitutional amendment on the Nov. 6 ballot requiring unanimous juries in serious felony cases.

Consultant Mary-Patricia Wray of Top Drawer Strategies wrote and directed the video. Wray also partnered with LRJ PAC consultant Scott Wilfong, making for an interesting pairing. Wilfong is known for his work on GOP campaigns, while Wray planted her flag in Louisiana with the election of Gov. John Bel Edwards.

The ad, which you can watch here, opens with Miguez at a gun range. "Here in Louisiana we don't take our rights for granted,” he says via voiceover as we watch him shoot the target, followed by images of a church, a woman with her baby and American flags rippling in the wind. “No jury of our peers should be able to take away these rights from any of us if there is reasonable doubt… We can’t take any chances when the government takes rights away.”

“A lot of people don’t know about it (the amendment) at all,” said Wray of the ballot measure that was authorized by Sen. J.P. Morrell. “People on both sides of the aisle, they just don’t want people to be confused. You get one sentence on the ballot.”
