WEEKLY: Higgins Has Money, And A Posse

Congressman Clay Higgins has more than $211,000 in his campaign kitty after the first quarter of 2018, during which he collected $217,000 in donations, according to general consultant Chris Comeaux.

That’s an improvement from Higgins’ year-ending cash on hand total of $50,000. It also provides the congressman with more of a traditional incumbent’s advantage over a developing field that so far only includes Republican Joshua Guillory, a constitutional and family law attorney, and Democrat Mimi Methvin, a former judge.

Moreover, Higgins put the dough together by creating something called Higgins’ Posse — known in other campaigns as a finance committee. Aside from getting special posse badges from the congressman, the team further builds the status of the re-election campaign, for which Sally Nungesser is now handling the fundraising.

According to a list provided by Comeaux, Higgins’ Posse includes a few names that weren’t solidly in his corner two years ago, others who tend to play both sides of the field and many who are staunch supporters.

Riding in the posse are Clay Allen, Boysie Bollinger, Bill Busbice, Bill Fenstermaker, Shane Guidry, Ross Little, Clay Plaisance, Keith Meyer, Kenny Smith and Richard Zuschlag, in addition to 52 others.
